Robert Downey Jr. Says Pedro Pascal Becoming a Star ‘Reaffirms My Faith in Our Industry’

In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, praises were heaped on Pedro Pascal by many of his colleagues, including Robert Downey Jr. The duo is set to appear in the new Marvel film “Avengers: Doomsday,” currently being shot at Pinewood Studios in the U.K., with a planned release in December 2026.

During the making of “Doomsday,” Pascal and Downey have grown closer, with Downey organizing “study sessions” at his residence for the team to possibly rehearse scenes together. When asked about the specifics of these gatherings, Pascal cryptically responded, “Very good question.”

In this installment of the “Avengers” saga, Downey will portray the antagonist Doctor Doom, a stark contrast to his famous role as Iron Man. Pascal is set to continue his role as Reed Richards from the “Fantastic Four,” initially making his Marvel introduction in “Fantastic Four: First Steps” set for release in July.

Downey expressed his admiration for Pascal to Vanity Fair, stating, “Pascal’s gradual rise to fame and his current success really restore my confidence in the film industry.”

Pascal reciprocated the sentiments about Downey, describing him as “incredibly open and welcoming, making you feel at ease to express fear, hunger, or uncertainty.” Pascal acknowledged the initial resistance to his casting as Reed Richards due to concerns about his age and fit for the role, and how he turned to Downey for support during these challenging times.

“He doesn’t put up barriers, so he presents his true self immediately, and that makes him very trustworthy,” added Vanessa Kirby, Pascal’s co-star in “Fantastic Four”.

Bella Ramsey, another of Pascal’s close associates from their time on HBO’s “The Last of Us,” also contributed to his Vanity Fair feature. Ramsey expressed her discomfort with Pascal being labeled as the internet’s “daddy,” a term that Pascal himself humorously embraced in a 2022 Vanity Fair video interview by saying, “Daddy is a state of mind. I’m your daddy.”

Ramsey shared her concerns about the joke, “I felt worried for him. I want to shield him from that nickname. It’s like, ‘He’s more than just that label.’”
