Ryan Reynolds Confirmed to Return as Deadpool in Upcoming Avengers Film
Ryan Reynolds is set to return as the iconic Deadpool in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) ensemble film, Avengers: Doomsday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is expected to make a significant appearance in the next installment of the Avengers series. Despite the excitement surrounding this crossover, which Marvel enthusiasts have been eager to see for years, insiders suggest that Deadpool is not likely to formally become a member of the Avengers just yet.
The possibility of Deadpool appearing in Avengers: Doomsday has been a topic of much speculation among fans ever since Marvel released a teaser video focusing on the cast earlier this year. The rumors intensified when Reynolds recently hinted at his involvement in the project.
Reynolds continuing his role as the irreverent anti-hero Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday isn’t particularly surprising. His transition into the MCU was solidified with the 2024 release of Deadpool & Wolverine, where he teamed up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine due to some multiverse adventures that had them hopping through various realities.
In the comedic duo of Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool expressed a persistent desire to join the Avengers. While he might not officially be inducted as an Avenger, the upcoming film could see him interacting with major characters such as Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, or Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Audiences might also get clarity on a mysterious scene showing Thor grieving over Deadpool on a battlefield when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
Star-Studded Cast and Future Marvel Surprises
Avengers: Doomsday boasts an impressive lineup, featuring Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, among others. Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who finally appeared on the big screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, is also part of this expansive cast.
Marvel Studios has revealed quite a bit about this high-budget Avengers movie, yet it seems there are still numerous surprises awaiting fans. Xochitl Gomez, known for her role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is heavily rumored to appear, although her participation has not been officially confirmed. Additionally, the integration of The Fantastic Four into the MCU remains a mystery that fans are excited to see unfold.
As anticipation builds on how Deadpool will integrate with the Avengers, Marvel enthusiasts can also look forward to other projects in the pipeline. The next MCU film scheduled for release is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, which is set to premiere on July 31, 2026.
