Luca Guadagnino to Direct ‘Artificial’ Drama About AI for Amazon MGM

Luca Guadagnino in Negotiations for New Amazon MGM Project

Luca Guadagnino is currently in discussions to helm the upcoming movie “Artificial,” which is being developed under the Amazon MGM Studios banner.

The specifics of the movie’s storyline are currently kept confidential, however, it is noted to be a comedic drama that explores themes of artificial intelligence. The screenplay has been penned by Simon Rich, who will also serve as a producer together with Heyday Films’ producers David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. Jennifer Fox is also potentially joining the production team.

This project marks another collaboration between Guadagnino and Amazon MGM Studios. Previously, he directed “After the Hunt,” featuring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri, scheduled for an October 10 release by the studio, as well as “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, which was released in theaters last year by the studio.

David Heyman’s Ongoing Ventures with Amazon MGM

David Heyman continues his prolific partnership with Amazon MGM as he prepares to produce the forthcoming James Bond movie alongside Amy Pascal. Heyman’s impressive portfolio includes producing all eight of J.K Rowling’s “Harry Potter” films and the three “Fantastic Beasts” movies. His other notable productions include Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” with Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie; “Marriage Story” by Noah Baumbach featuring Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, and Laura Dern; Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney; “Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling; and the Paul King-directed features “Paddington,” “Paddington 2,” and “Wonka” with Timothée Chalamet.

Currently, Heyman is involved in pre-production for the “Harry Potter” television series and the post-production of Taika Waititi’s film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel “Klara and the Sun,” which stars Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams. He is also collaborating with Amy Pascal on Noah Baumbach’s upcoming project “Jay Kelly,” starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler.
