Lionsgate’s planned Monopoly movie has brought on board John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its scriptwriters. The duo is recognized for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, where they served as both writers and directors.
It was revealed today that Daley and Goldstein will be tasked with crafting the screenplay for the movie, which is inspired by the iconic Hasbro board game. The film’s production will be handled by actress Margot Robbie through her company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
In addition to their work on Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein have recently completed their own original movie titled Mayday. Their portfolio also includes writing credits for notable films such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The concept of a Monopoly movie has been circulating since 2007, when it was reported that director Ridley Scott showed interest in helming the project. In 2011, Scott chose Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the screenplay, although that project eventually lost momentum. A new attempt surfaced in 2015 when Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborated with writer Andrew Niccol on a script. More recently, in 2019, there were announcements that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would participate.
However, all these previous attempts appear to have been abandoned following Lionsgate’s acquisition of entertainment company eOne from Hasbro, which revitalized the project. Fans of the game are hopeful that this latest adaptation will successfully make it past the starting line.
