Gearbox has announced that it is looking into the possibility of integrating a field of view (FOV) slider for Borderlands 4 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, following feedback from console users.
Upon its release last week, players on consoles were surprised to find that Borderlands 4 did not include an FOV slider or a motion blur toggle, both of which are available in the PC version of the game.
Currently, the absence of an FOV slider is causing significant discussion among console gamers of Borderlands 4, with many reporting that the fixed FOV setting is leading to motion sickness.

In response to the uproar, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford hinted that the omission of the FOV slider might be related to maintaining fairness in gameplay, especially since the PC version includes it and the game features crossplay. This response, however, only led to more confusion among players.
Gearbox has since acknowledged the issue and is actively addressing it. They shared a message on social media stating:
“Vault Hunters! Your feedback about the FOV sliders on console has been heard. Our team is currently investigating ways to add these sliders to the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 editions. We will keep listening to your feedback and prioritize updates based on your gaming experience. Thank you all!”
It is speculated that the console versions of Borderlands 4 are missing the FOV slider to preserve certain performance metrics. Increasing the FOV can place additional demands on the hardware, which might affect aspects like frame rates.
Despite these issues, Borderlands 4 has had a strong debut on Steam, with over 300,000 concurrent players recorded on a recent Sunday. This figure surpasses any previous Borderlands title in terms of concurrent players on Steam, and the actual number is likely much higher when considering console players.
While the game has been popular in terms of player counts, its launch has not been without issues. Players have reported performance problems on PC, leading to a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam. Gearbox has released an update aimed at the PC version of Borderlands 4, though specific details of the patch were not provided.
