The Extremes One Might Go to Break a Lethal Hex
With its debut set for the upcoming SXSW festival, Annapurna Sriram’s new movie “Fucktoys” has released an exclusive trailer via The Bangin Beats. The film takes viewers on a wild journey through a place known as Trashtown, USA. The story kicks off when the protagonist, AP, portrayed by Sriram herself, loses a tooth and finds herself burdened with a mysterious curse. Advised by psychics that a simple payment of $1,000 and an animal sacrifice would free her from the curse, AP plunges into the shady depths of Trashtown hoping to scrape together the necessary funds to save her life.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s bold style and the visual aesthetic achieved through 16mm film. It shows AP consulting with psychics and declaring her affection for the town’s trash-filled environment. The official description of the film hints at a wild ride: “In this audacious, erotically charged dark comedy, AP encounters a series of eccentric characters and bizarre scenarios, each more outlandish than the one before, leading her to an unavoidable destiny. ‘Fucktoys’ is a flamboyant journey that delves into themes of intimacy, exploitation, and social class within a fictional pre-millennium setting.”
Behind the Scenes and Cast Details
Annapurna Sriram not only leads the cast but also takes on the roles of writer and director for “Fucktoys”. The film features a diverse ensemble including rapper Big Freedia, Sadie Scott from “Spoiler Alert”, Francois Arnaud known for “The Borgias”, Damian Young from “Edge of Darkness”, and Brandon Flynn of “13 Reasons Why” fame. The executive production team is composed of Sriram, Timothy Petryni known for “Succession”, Lizzie Goodman of “When I Consume You”, and Jean Louis Droulers from “NOiSE”. Co-executive producers include Heather Buckley of “We Are Still Here”, Sarah Wielusz from “Caroline Polachek: Door”, and Alex Hidalgo known for “Dorian Electra – Man To Man”.
The film “Fucktoys” is scheduled to have its first showing at SXSW on March 9.
