European Film Awards: ‘Sentimental Value’ Tops Nominations!

‘Sentimental Value’ Leads European Film Awards Nominations

“Sentimental Value” is at the forefront of the 38th European Film Awards, with the top category nominees announced this Tuesday in Seville, Spain.

Leading the nominations is “Sentimental Value” with five, closely followed by “Sirāt” which has four. Both “Sound of Falling” and “It Was Just an Accident” have received three nominations each.

The award winners will be unveiled at a ceremony scheduled for January 17 in Berlin, Germany.

European Film:

A diverse array of films including AFTERNOONS OF SOLITUDE (Spain, France) – a documentary by Albert Serra, and ARCO (France) – an animated feature by Ugo Bienvenu, are nominated. The list also includes DOG OF GOD (Latvia, US) – another animated film by Raitis Ābele and Lauris Ābele, and FIUME O MORTE! (Croatia, Slovenia, Italy) – a documentary directed by Igor Bezinović. Fiction films like IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT (France, Iran, Luxembourg) by Jafar Panahi, and SENTIMENTAL VALUE (Norway, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden) by Joachim Trier are also in the running. Other noteworthy nominations include LITTLE AMELIE (France) and OLIVIA AND THE INVISIBLE EARTHQUAKE (Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Chile), both animated films. The category is rounded off with other significant entries such as SIRĀT (Spain, France), SONGS OF SLOW BURNING EARTH (Ukraine, France, Denmark, Sweden), SOUND OF FALLING (Germany), TALES FROM THE MAGIC GARDEN (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, France), THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB (France, Tunisia), and WITH HASAN IN GAZA (Germany).

The directors in contention include Yorgos Lanthimos for BUGONIA, Oliver Laxe for SIRĀT, Jafar Panahi for IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, Mascha Schilinski for SOUND OF FALLING, and Joachim Trier for SENTIMENTAL VALUE.

European Actress:
The nominees include Leonie Benesch for LATE SHIFT, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi for DUSE, Léa Drucker for CASE 137, Vicky Krieps for LOVE ME TENDER, and Renate Reinsve for SENTIMENTAL VALUE.

European Actor:

European Documentary:
This category features AFTERNOONS OF SOLITUDE by Albert Serra, FIUME O MORTE! by Igor Bezinović, RIEFENSTAHL by Andres Veiel, SONGS OF SLOW BURNING EARTH by Olha Zhurba, and WITH HASAN IN GAZA by Kamal Aljafari.

European Animated Feature Film:

European Young Audience Award:
The nominations in this category include ARCO by Ugo Bienvenu, I ACCIDENTALLY WROTE A BOOK by Nóra Lakos, and SIBLINGS by Greta Scarano.
