2025 Emmy Awards Nominations Revealed
Today marked the announcement of the nominees for the 2025 Emmy Awards, with HBO’s The Last of Us, an adaptation of the popular video game series by Naughty Dog, securing a significant number of nominations.
The series emerged as one of the top contenders this year, receiving 16 nominations, a slight dip from the 24 nominations it garnered in its first season. Among the notable nominees from the series were Pedro Pascal, who was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Joel despite appearing in just three episodes this season. Bella Ramsey received a nod for Best Actress in her role as Ellie. Additional nominations went to Kaitlyn Dever, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Wright, and Joe Pantoliano for their respective roles. The series itself was nominated for Best Drama.
Nominations for the show extended into various technical categories as well, including Best Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Supervision, a Nonfiction Short for its behind-the-scenes documentary, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Special Visual Effects.
Despite its numerous nominations, The Last of Us did not receive any nods in the writing or directing categories. Additionally, many fans and critics expressed disappointment over Isabela Merced not receiving a nomination for her significant role as Dina.
Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog, expressed his gratitude and excitement over the nominations. “On behalf of the entire team at Naughty Dog, I extend our thanks to the Academy and offer huge congratulations to all involved with The Last of Us Season 2. It’s thrilling to see the continued celebration and growth in popularity of The Last of Us Part II’s story,” he stated.
Leading the Pack in Nominations
This year, Apple’s Severance received the highest number of nominations with an impressive total of 27, closely followed by HBO’s own The Penguin with 24, and both The Studio and The White Lotus each earning 23 nominations.
Future of The Last of Us
As for the future of The Last of Us television series, fans can look forward to a third season which will delve into Abby’s storyline. Details regarding the release date for Season 3 remain undisclosed at this time.
On the gaming front, a new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered has introduced a chronological mode to enhance player experience. There are also rumors circulating that Naughty Dog is currently developing The Last of Us Part III and a new project titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
