FromSoftware has recently addressed some matchmaking problems encountered during the debut weekend of Elden Ring Nightreign, providing guidance for those affected.
On May 31, FromSoftware used Twitter to communicate with players who were experiencing difficulties connecting with others in the new multiplayer spin-off of Elden Ring. The company recommended restarting the matchmaking process if issues arise. They admitted that this is not a perfect solution, but it confirms that they are aware of the concerns. The developer expressed gratitude for the players’ patience and understanding.
A subsequent tweet from FromSoftware pinpointed specific issues with the PlayStation versions of the game. Players on PS4 and PS5 experiencing matchmaking problems were advised to check their NAT type, noting that “NAT type 3 may impact matchmaking on PSN.”

Yasuhiro Kitao, a producer, recently spoke on social media about the strong initial sales of Elden Ring Nightreign, which sold 2 million units on its first day.
Kitao acknowledged that Nightreign has unique gameplay elements and differs from their recent titles in various ways. He appreciated the gamers’ willingness to dive into this new world despite its differences. “Like Demon’s Souls or Sekiro, it might be puzzling initially, but Nightreign introduces its own set of challenges and experiences. Once players get past the initial challenges, they will find a unique sense of achievement,” Kitao added.
He ended his message with hopes that players will enjoy the game.
Regarding the game’s reception, Nightreign currently holds a ‘mixed’ review status on Steam, largely due to its challenging solo play, absence of two-player co-op, lack of voice chat, and other outdated features. The difficulty in assembling a three-player team, a classic challenge in multiplayer games, persists in Elden Ring Nightreign as well. A forthcoming update next week aims to simplify solo gameplay.
