Big Thief Launches New EP to Aid California Wildfire Victims
The band Big Thief has unveiled a new EP titled Passional Relations, dedicated to supporting the wildfire relief efforts in California. A significant portion of the proceeds from the five-track EP will benefit the Plus1 LA Fires Fund. Additional funds will be used to assist local musicians, artists, and community members. Fans can purchase the digital EP for $15 via the band’s online store.
The EP kicks off with two tracks, “Imagination” and “Light as Light,” both recorded with Dom Monks back in 2020. The third track, “Waiting on Blue,” features contributions from Mat Davidson and was recorded with Scott McMicken in the same year. The fourth song, “Zombie Girl,” was also tracked in 2020 and produced by Sam Owens at Flying Cloud. Notably, a different rendition of “Zombie Girl” appears on Adrianne Lenker’s album Songs. The final track, “Shadow Too,” was recorded by Big Thief’s own James Krivchenia in Topanga, California, during 2018.
In a heartfelt press release, Big Thief expressed their deep concern for those affected by the California wildfires. “We are profoundly moved by the devastation and have compiled some of our best unreleased tracks into an EP named Passional Relations, exclusively available through our webstore. We are donating all proceeds to aid those affected by the Los Angeles fires. It’s our hope that these funds will not only meet the urgent needs of the communities but also support the ongoing cultural contributions of local artists,” said the band.
