HBO Max is gearing up to expand the universe of The Big Bang Theory with a new spinoff series titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The series, which has been greenlit for one season, will be overseen by the original show’s creators.
The new series will focus on Stuart Bloom, the quirky comic book store owner from The Big Bang Theory. In Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Stuart is faced with the colossal task of fixing reality after he accidentally triggers a catastrophic event involving a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, leading to what is described as a multiverse Armageddon.
Helping Stuart in his monumental quest are his girlfriend Denise, his geologist buddy Bert, and the always troublesome quantum physicist Barry Kripke. Throughout their adventures, they encounter various alternate versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory, and as the series title suggests, their efforts are fraught with challenges and mishaps.

Chuck Lorre, the series creator, shared that this project was a chance for him to explore new creative territories. “This was an opportunity to do something daring and step outside my usual boundaries. It’s a concept that would have sparked debates among The Big Bang Theory’s characters,” he stated. Co-creator Zak Penn added that this series is something that even the characters from the original show would enjoy watching.
HBO Max is equally enthusiastic about this new addition. Casey Bloys, head of HBO Max, expressed excitement about continuing The Big Bang Theory’s legacy. “This project wouldn’t be possible without the genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, along with Zak Penn, who brings new perspectives and a unique tone to our talented team,” he remarked.
Lorre also hinted that the show will heavily utilize special effects and CGI, which aligns with its science fiction theme, promising an intriguing visual experience for the viewers.
Details on the cast and the exact release date remain undisclosed, but predictions point towards a 2026 premiere.
