For those following the Disney+ revival of “Daredevil: Born Again,” the first episode brings a shocking twist with the apparent demise of Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s close friend and legal ally, Foggy Nelson.
But is Foggy truly gone? Long-time Marvel viewers, accustomed to plot twists involving character deaths and revivals, are skeptical of this development.
A popular fan theory, inspired by the original Daredevil comics, speculates that Foggy might have staged his own death after an attack, subsequently entering the FBI’s witness protection program. This mirrors a comic plot where Foggy’s survival is later revealed, catching both the readers and Matt Murdock off guard. Could the series be heading in a similar direction?
It’s not uncommon for adaptations to diverge from their comic book origins, as seen with other characters like Karen Page, who remains deceased in the comics. However, an intriguing clue has surfaced: the address of the newly formed law firm in the show — Nelson, Murdock, and Page — is numbered #468, the very issue in which Foggy makes his return in the comics.
Adding to the speculation, Marvel TV head and executive producer of Daredevil, Brad Winderbaum, hinted that Elden Henson would return in some form for the second season, though he did not clarify whether it would be through flashbacks or other means.
“Karen and Foggy are essential to Matt’s story,” Winderbaum stated in an interview with YouTuber Brandon Davis. “It’s hard to imagine a narrative without them, and I look forward to their involvement in the upcoming season.”
Winderbaum confirmed that both Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are set to appear in Season 2.
When questioned at a convention about the possibility of Foggy faking his death, Elden responded, “That’s a common theory, but honestly, I don’t know much about it. I was quite rushed into the original series, so I’m not sure about the specifics.”
Elden indicated that since his character was killed off, he remains somewhat out of the loop regarding the show’s future developments.
This raises questions about the discrepancy between Elden’s comments and Winderbaum’s statements about his return. It’s possible that Elden is employing a strategy of denial to keep potential spoilers under wraps, reminiscent of tactics used by other actors in similar situations.
While the release date for “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 has not been announced, showrunner Dario Scardapane has told fans to anticipate its arrival in March 2026.
