Elden Ring Movie Director Is More Than Familiar With The Game

Elden Ring has rapidly established itself as a legendary title in the gaming world, so it was practically inevitable that a cinematic adaptation would follow. The film adaptation is being led by Alex Garland, known for his work on Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, who will both write and direct the film. Garland is also quite familiar with the nuances of the game.

In an interview with IGN, Garland kept the movie details under wraps but shared his personal tactic for conquering one of the game’s notorious bosses, Starscourge Radahn. Radahn has been a notorious challenge for many players, yet Garland mentioned he’s currently on his seventh journey through the game.

“Radahn is actually quite manageable,” Garland remarked. “I found him to be simpler because if you activate the allies available in that battle, they engage him and deplete about half of his health, then you can come in and finish the job. It’s all about making use of the summon signs scattered throughout the area.”

However, which boss does Garland find challenging? It is Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

“Malenia is the real challenge,” he explained. “This is my seventh time playing through, and I’ve powered up significantly—I have more resources, a better sword, and other useful gear. My strategy is to persistently confront them, over and over. It’s a method I picked up from playing Dark Souls. It’s less about skill improvement and more about persistence. Just keep at it, and eventually, you’ll succeed.”

As the film was only announced recently, information is still scarce. George R. R. Martin, who co-wrote the game, will act as one of the producers alongside Peter Rice, and DNA’s Andrew MacDonald and Allon Reich.

Beyond the upcoming movie, Elden Ring has also inspired a spinoff titled Nightreign, which has been well-received by critics, earning “generally favorable” reviews. The spinoff achieved impressive sales figures, selling 2 million copies in the first 24 hours and reaching 3.5 million within the first five days.
