Anticipated Release of Halo: Combat Evolved Remaster by Microsoft in 2026
It has been reported that Microsoft plans to launch a remastered version of Halo: Combat Evolved in the year 2026.
At the Xbox Games Showcase in 2025, Phil Spencer, who leads Microsoft’s gaming division, hinted at several exciting upcoming releases for the next year. These include a new installment in the Fable series, the latest Forza game, Gears of War: E-Day, and “the revival of a legendary game that has been part of our portfolio from the start.”
Although Spencer’s announcement was a clear nod to Halo, journalist Mark Warren from The Verge has specifically linked these comments to a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Warren had previously reported about this game, which is also being considered for release on competing platforms like the PlayStation 5. It’s important to note that Microsoft has previously remastered this game in 2011 as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, which was later included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This upcoming release is not an entirely new game from Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries), which is now using Unreal Engine 5 for game development. In 2024, Halo Studios unveiled a seven-minute video from Project Foundry, an experimental initiative aimed at demonstrating what a Halo game could look like on Unreal Engine. Although primarily a technical demonstration, it provided a sneak peek at what could be a new chapter for Xbox’s flagship series, following the release of Halo Infinite in 2021.
