New Charity Album Released to Aid Los Angeles Wildfire Victims
A newly launched charity compilation album titled Los Angeles Rising has been curated to support those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles. The project, spearheaded by Bauhaus’ Kevin Haskins and producer Nick Launay, showcases a collection of unreleased tracks from renowned artists like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, and Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. Other notable contributions come from Devo, Gary Numan, Primal Scream, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Danny Elfman, U.S. Girls, among others. The album has been made available for a purchase price of $10 on Bandcamp, with all proceeds directed to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund.
Kevin Haskins shared his personal connection to the wildfires in a press release. “During the peak of the wildfires, our communities, including where Nick and I reside, were under evacuation orders,” he explained. “Fortunately for us, the fire nearing our homes and studios was controlled and extinguished by the valiant efforts of the firefighters just in time. However, many musicians and friends weren’t as fortunate and suffered significant losses.”
In related news, earlier this week, the band Big Thief released an EP titled Passional Relations with the intent to support wildfire relief efforts as well. Following the initiatives by FireAid and G*ve A F*ck LA, more benefit concerts are scheduled throughout the month. These include I Love LA at the Glendale Presbyterian Church on February 8, a performance by Blink-182 and Alkaline Trio at the Hollywood Palladium on February 13, among others. During the 2025 Grammy Awards, a poignant rendition of “California Dreamin’,” originally by the Mamas & the Papas and covered by Jarvis Cocker for this album, was performed by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars as a homage to the wildfire victims.
