As Death Cab for Cutie celebrates the 20th anniversary of their influential album Plans, they are set to commemorate this special occasion with several exclusive concerts. These performances are scheduled for August and will cover three major cities: Seattle, Chicago, and Brooklyn. During these shows, the band will perform the entire 2005 album, Plans, including hit tracks such as “Soul Meets Body,” “I Will Follow You Into the Dark,” and “Crooked Teeth.” Opening acts for select performances will include Nation of Language and the American Analog Set. A promotional trailer for these events is available, along with a complete itinerary of the band’s tour dates.
“Plans is a pivotal album that significantly shaped the future of Death Cab for Cutie—it marked our first release under a major label, achieved platinum status, and led to our initial GRAMMY nominations,” stated Benjamin Gibbard, the lead vocalist. “Although we are currently focusing on our upcoming studio album, we couldn’t miss the chance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Plans with a few live shows,” he added.
On August 9, amidst their two headline shows in Brooklyn, Death Cab for Cutie will perform as the opening act for My Chemical Romance at the stadium show in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the latter will play their album The Black Parade in its entirety. This particular performance is not included as part of the Plans anniversary series.
Recently, Death Cab for Cutie has maintained a vigorous and nearly continuous touring schedule. Over the past two years, they have been performing their album Transatlanticism completely on a joint tour with the Postal Service, which saw Gibbard taking on multiple roles nightly, much to the enjoyment of fans across generations.
