The music festival space in India has grown steadily over the last decade for the country to justify its position as one of the hottest emerging markets in the world. While the come up has been a thrilling ride to watch, we currently stand at the dawn of a new era of the country’s festival scene. With festival properties like NH7 Weekender, Sunburn Festival, Vh1 Supersonic and Magnetic Fields that have contributed significantly over the years to put India on the global music map, each one of them have successfully managed to bring the global music experience to the Indian fans, while also showcasing many of India’s finest and upcoming acts.
And while we have seen a notable few to have stuck to their core values and simultaneously explore new horizons, with each passing day, we see innumerable new festivals cropping up throughout the country! And while it certainly is a point of concern for the industry, it needs to be noted that music festivals should be looking at playing an important role towards benefitting the culture, rather than being willing to just be a part of what appears to be an ongoing trend. But after all being said and done, a bigger spark has been the need of the hour for the next big step to set foot within the music festival space in the country.
And with that being said, we were recently introduced to a brand new player within the vastly growing industry earlier this year. Yes, we’re talking about TIMEOUT 72. A three day multi-genre music festival that is all set to take place from December 27-29th, 2017 in Vagator, Goa, TIMEOUT 72’s monumental arrival has been further propelled by their vision and a string of humongous announcements that have made the Indian audience happily anxious for what’s to come!
Led by their ambitious aspiration to redefine music events in India, TIMEOUT 72 have a lot of weight riding on its shoulders. But at the helm, they have invited international music superstars Jason Derulo, Martin Garrix and Wiz Khalifa to lead the charge. What has been a long time coming indeed, Jason and Wiz’s debut India performance is poised to single handedly mark a shift within the country’s live music space. While there continues to be a major dearth of global music stars making their way to India, the two acts’ highly awaited performances arrive as an important fixture.
Taking their multi-sensory experience to the sands of Goa, the presence of a diverse range of artists from the electronic music sphere on TIMEOUT 72’s massive bill namely Don Diablo, NERVO and Timmy Trumpet amongst others makes this lineup stand out as one of the best the country has ever witnessed till date.
As we shift our focus towards the homegrown roster on the festival bill, it is safe to say that it is a great step in the right direction. With the likes of Lost Stories and Zaeden representing dance music, attendees at TIMEOUT 72 will also be greeted to a dedicated Live Stage. Named “Proximus”, the mammoth setup will be headlined by two of India’s most prominent singer talents, Lucky Ali and Papon.
With seasoned acts like Advaita, Hari & Sukhmani, Midival Punditz and Prateek Kuhad set to make their presence felt at the festival, rock acts like Parvaaz and The Local Train will also be taking over the stage amongst several other names.
Inspired by the concept of epoch, constellation and space, TIMEOUT 72 will boast of three stages namely Majoris (Main Stage), Eximius (Psy Stage) and Proximus (Live Stage), which will will transport the audience to a whole another dimension. Additionally, Majoris will serve as one of the biggest and mightiest mainstages the country has ever seen. With Eximius set to be headlined by psy trance heavyweights Vini Vici alongside other notable names like Skazi, Ritmo amongst others, TIMEOUT 72 is poised to deliver an audio-visual treat that India has indeed been waiting for!
