Goa Government Set To Ban Late Night Parties In The State In Two Weeks

Goa

In what might be major blow to Goa’s music scene, the state government is set to ban all late night parties in two weeks. Minister for water resources and Siolim MLA Vinod Palyekar has promised to shut down all loud music parties in the coming tow weeks, after the crackdown on the parties in Vagator resulted in a major shutdown.

Talking about the ban, Palyekar said:

We have already stopped 80% of these parties. Within two weeks, all the parties will be shut. The police have already been instructed. The stopping of such rave parties is the first step in stopping the infestation of drug trade along the coast.

In spite of several warnings & reminders late night music goes on till 3 to 4 am in the morning which is creating problems not only for Old aged Citizens but also to the Student Community who are answering their Board exams.

The only obstruction is coming from some of the hoteliers as their business is getting impacted. I have given a final warning to the Police now & would be meeting the chief minister on this matter. Late night parties are not part of our culture and should not be encouraged.

Last year saw both Sunburn Festival and Vh1 Supersonic move out of Goa after failing to obtain the necessary permissions and licences to host the festivals in the state. However, Goa did manage to host a number of boutique festivals, including A Day of sLick, Satellite Festival, among others. How this ban will affect any future editions still remains to be seen.
