Skrillex has been a pioneering figure within the electronic music scene. Known for his forward-thinking on music and the art culture as a whole, Sonny Moore has efficiently helped revolutionize the music industry on a monumental scale. As part of his headlining appearance at ComplexCon next month, Skrillex spoke to Complex about a horde of topics including his recent venture into pop music, OWSLA, and much more.
Amidst the massive amount of information that was shared by Sonny himself, he also talked about the “only time I really got upset [with deadmau5] was when he started taking stabs at Marshmello, acting like such a fucking bully”. In reference to the Twitter feud which took place earlier this year following an unlikely incident at Ultra where marshmello reportedly tried to meet Joel when the latter avoided the mystery figure. As expected, the mau5 man took to Twitter to lash out at the producer which consequently offered the same story in different light from the mellogang leader.
After the whole ordeal came to a halt, soon after the masked figure tweeted back at Joel yet again which caused the veteran act to lash out, one more time.
Talking about dance music’s latest phenomenon, Skrillex said: “Marshmello is this young kid who looks up to deadmau5, and the first tweet he gets from deadmau5 is talking shit about him. That’s when I had to stand up and be like, ‘Stop being a fucking bully to people.’”
Sonny didn’t stop at that as he also commented on deadmau5’s infamous personality which he pointed towards as a consequence of his lack of ambition in his own music.
“I think he may be scared to really step outside of what he does. But when someone else tries to do something new and they’re successful at it? I’ve put plenty of other records out that aren’t as successful but he doesn’t talk about those, you know what I mean? He’s only talking about things that are popping off.”
