Red Bull Music Academy 2016 Heading To Montreal, Opens Application Process

image001The world renowned Red Bull Music Academy has announced their plans for 2016. The month-long series of lectures, shows, talks and more will take place in Montreal in the autumn of this year, after heading to Paris for its 2015 edition.

Considered as a global institution committed to fostering creativity in music, RBMA has touched down in a different host city each and every year since its inception back in 1998. Bringing together an eclectic blend of mindfully selected group of musicians from around the world, the participants will get to attend intimate lecture sessions with pioneering figures of the music world, and collaborate on music with them and with each other in a state-of-the-art studio environment. At night, the institution will present various concerts and parties devoted to Montreal’s cultural intuitions, off-the-radar spaces and special venues in an attempt to showcase its unique music identity.

The workshop has hosted an array of high profile guest lecturers and performers including the likes of Bob Moog, Brian Eno, Nile Rodgers, Steve Reich, Kim Gordon, Giorgio Moroder and Erykah Badu amongst many more. The RBMA alumni are responsible for crafting some of the biggest talents over the years and have churned out the likes of Flying Lotus, Lunice, Nina Kraviz, Hudson Mohawke, Jackmaster and Katy B to name a few.

The return to Canada for RBMA has been a much awaited call indeed. With their last appearance in Canada taking place in Toronto in 2007, this will be the 18th Red Bull Music Academy overall. RBMA has built a strong connection with Canada over the years. Since 2012, it has joined forced with MUTEK, one of Montreal’s largest electronic music festivals, to present a showcase. It also boasts of a super talented Canadian alumni through the years like Lunice, Sinjin Hawke, Ekali, Exeter,Poirier, HomeSick and Ango.

This year’s academy in Canada will take 70 individuals as compared to their usual 60 owing to the 10 second round participants from 2015 who will be joining them. The application process has opened for the 2016 edition and music makers from around the world are invited to apply for the same. The application form can be found here and must be mailed in by March 7, along with a CD of recorded material by each applicant.
