Interview With Edu Imbernon!

Edu-Imbernon1

Ever since he exploded onto the international electronic music landscape in 2008, Valencia based DJ and producer Edu Imbernon has gone onto become one of the finest musical exports from Spain in recent times. With a number of originals and remixes under his belt, the Spaniard has seen his stature as technically proficient DJ grow over time. Returning to India after 2 years, we managed to catch up with Edu to discuss his beginnings, his influences and much more.

TBB: You last played in India in 2013 at Vh1 Supersonic. How does it feel to be back?

Edu: I’m excited to be back and excited that I get to cover two cities in India this time rather than just one.

TBB: Talking about your music, take us through your journey. How did you start out as a DJ and producer?

Edu: My journey into music started when I decided to study sound engineering instead of business and moving to Berlin. When I was in Berlin, I did nothing but put my head down and produce, and so the journey became my life. My number one hit, El Baile Aleman, is what started my international DJ career

TBB: How does 2016 look for you? Any singles, collaborations or EPs we should be looking forward to?

Edu: I have two new releases coming soon. A new release with Los Suruba coming on Suara, titled “Shadows of Rigadon” later this month. Also a new collaboration with Tim Dibgy-Bell from the band Duologue before summer.

TBB: Your remix for The xx’s Crystalised is known as one of your finest remixes. What made you remix the track?

Edu: What made me do the remix is that I was lucky enough to have been given the chance to and because I loved the song and the band so much, how could I have not done it.

TBB: Talking about your record label, it’s been almost 8 years since you launched Elektisch. How has the response been? Any upcoming producers we should keep an eye on?

Edu: Ekletisch has had a good response with Solomun, Hot Since 82 and David August. The label now focuses more on releasing new talent, and you should definitely look out for Rafael Cerato or Danito & Athina.

TBB: Did you always want to be a DJ/producer or did you have other plans initially?

Edu: No, as I was a DJ from a young age, I never really had any other plans before. I knew this is what I wanted to do.

TBB: Which artists do you think were essential in influencing you as a DJ/producer?

Edu: I’d have to say Tiga and Gregor Tresher.

TBB: You’ll be playing at SulaFest this weekend. Looking forward to some wine tasting while you’re there?

Edu: Yes, I would love to try some local wine.

TBB: Any message for your fans in India?

Edu: To all my fans in India, I look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor and thank you all for the support.

TBB: What are your Top 3 Bangin tracks at the moment?

Edu:

  • Edu Imbernon & Los Suruba – Shadows of Rigadon
  • Finnebassen- Rotundo
  • Thomas Schumacher and Victor Ruiz’s – Apollo
