If you thought producer/DJ Diplo broke into multitudes of boundaries just to create the hottest music, then it’s time to think again! Mad Decent indeed, Wesley is all set to play a whole different ball game now.
As per reports, the Grammy-nominated producer has lead an investment consortium with management company TMWRK to purchase a minority equity in Arizona United Soccer Club, the state’s sole professional team who play in the Major League Soccer(MLS). An interesting move indeed, Diplo talked fondly of his latest deal saying,
“I’ve been really fortunate to travel all over the world and experience different cultures through music. Wherever I am, Jamaica, Spain, England, China, etc., soccer is a social constant,” said Diplo in a statement. “I wanted to figure out a way to get involved with the game and team sports so when Arizona United presented itself, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I see soccer the same way I see music, as a connective tissue linking the world’s cultures.”
And looking at the amount of demographic Diplo is capable of attracting, there’s barely any doubt left that the Arizona United SC is set for a complete overhaul. Moreover, the club’s Co-Chairman Kyle Eng also spoke about their newly formed association saying;
“Diplo, throughout his music career as a DJ, Producer and Artist, has always been about global culture, youth culture and inclusiveness, and we couldn’t think of a better match to not only fit our core demographic, but to wrap our team around,” said Arizona United SC Co-Chairmen Kyle Eng and Brett Johnson in a statement. “The number of ways we can work together to grow the Arizona United SC brand is unlimited with a partner like Diplo.”
