Ever since news about a possible merger between Twitter and SoundCloud broke out, SoundCloud has been going cuckoo over copyright issues. With every DJ tweeting about emails they have received by the hour regarding music they posted previously as well as new music, one DJ who seems to have run into a brick wall is Kaskade. With what started with a series of Tweets in which he expressed his frustration of having his new music removed from the popular sound-sharing website, Kaskade went further to reveal (and announce!) that he will soon begin a new portal – the kind where he can share what he wants, when he wants!
I have gotten 32 emails like this over the past 2 days… *end of an era pic.twitter.com/LRT9IUqJrM

I imagine over the next week my entire sound cloud will be taken down. Sorry but there is nothing I can do here.

It’s a bummer as I have worked to build that page up and put great stuff on there. (*shrugs shoulders) ahhh well.

Although 70% of my sound cloud has been taken down you might want to consider visiting it and grabbing those last bits…

Yes, so I will move forward with constructing my own portal where I can share what I like when I like.

Now, we’re not really shooting an arrow in the dark, when we put the numbers together and realize that Kaskade could have something like the live.deadmau5 portal on his mind. Deadmau5 can interact with his fans, share new music, upload new videos, overlook chat room discussions and reveal exclusive details regarding his tour plans, all through the comfort of his own portal. Perhaps, Ryan has been inspired by this freedom and the 32 emails from SoundCloud was the final push he needed. Interestingly, SoundCloud uses an automated system to identify and block uploaded content that’s copyright protected, including tracks in DJ mixes and bootlegs, mashups and remixes but they still have no extensive licensing deals with major labels.

Kaskade’s SoundCloud account still has plenty of his original tracks and remixes, plus he also has been giving away a lot of music for free lately, but perhaps when he realized that these issues with SoundCloud cuts him down from his fans, the Grammy nominated producer has decided to take matters in his own hands! We’ll just have to wait and watch for more details and we’ll be keeping you updated!
