With less than 70 days to go for the World’s largest sporting event to take place in the magical country of Brazil, football lovers await with bated breath as the quad-annual event looks to garner the largest televised audience ever. With 32 countries participating and thousands of travelling fans visiting the shores of the tropical football-crazed nation, the month of June will be no-less than a party month as the spirit of sport and competition will embrace a good part of humanity! And what better way than music to unite them! We take a look at how Dance Music has found its presence, as we take a look at trends, tracks and Official/Unofficial anthems for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.
Dance music has come a long way in the last 4 years, as the last World Cup may have seen limited Electronica renditions as part of the official album. However, this time around, with the surge of Dance Music in the last few years, one can notice its presence at the World’s biggest stage. With the implosion of Dance Music culture in the US, Nike’s branding team took a special photo-op featuring alongwith the US Men’s soccer team, American band Haim and DJ/Producer extraordinaire Diplo. Not known for its Football culture, the US will welcome the sports brand attempt to capitalize on Dance Music’s reach through the established producer as he posed proudly in the American colors.
Swedish hit-machine and adored DJ/Producer Avicii will compose the closing anthem for the World Cup, assisting honorary musical legends such as guitar legend Carlos Santana, Brazilian Latin Grammy winner Alexandre Pires and Haitian-American rapper Wyclef Jean. The lyrics for the anthem have been composed by two-time Grammy-nominee Ash Pournouri. While the name has been revealed to read “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)“, nothing of the song has been heard as of yet as it has been kept under tight wraps! Here’s what Pournouri had to say about the song.
In Portuguese Dar Um Jeito means to find a way around obstacles and impossibilities. With this track, we wanted to send a message of optimism and opportunity with the music and the words.
UK based Dance Music Pioneer and Electronica legend Fatboy Slim has put together a mammoth compilation as well, which features tracks ranging across the dance music spectrum ensuring something for every ear that loves football and Dance Music! The album is being prepped up as the ‘Unofficial Album for the Biggest Party of the Season’, as it sees colossal contributions from the likes of Eats Everything, DJ Fresh, Claude VonStroke, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and the massive collaboration between Gregor Salto and Saxsymbol & Todorov for the monster hit ‘Samba de Mundo‘. Here’s what Fatboy Slim had to say about the compilation!
Given my love of Brasilian music, parties and football it is no surprise that with World Cup happening this year I want to share that love by providing a soundtrack for the summer, based on Brasilian music!
So i’ve asked some special friends to contribute Brasil inspired tracks for a Brasil inspired album called “Bem Brasil”!
While Dance music frontheads talking Party anthems, Miami-based hitmaker and Mr. Worldwide Pitbull will continue his good form as the World Cup enlisted party-man, as he performs the official song, “We Are One” with Pop Diva Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte. The song is yet to see an official release, however we dug deep to find snippets of the making of the video for the song. While the song can be heard playing in the background, much of your attention will be undividedly towards J-Lo and the Carnival flavor that the video seems to bring!
Alongwith Fatboy Slim’s highly anticipated compilation, another track that makes part of the unofficial soundtrack is a collaboration between American singer-songwriter David Correy featuring Monobloco. Picked up by Coca-Cola as their official anthem, ‘The World Is Ours’ features Brazilian-born producer Mario Caldato Jr. as well alongwith some signature samba rhythms from famous Rio percussion group Monobloco. Fusing elements of Electrohouse with samba makes for a win, and while this track may have not headlined festivals or top charts, it still captures the party fervor that has gripped the nation and inadvertently the entire world.
While the entire tracklist from FIFA’s Official Album is yet to be revealed, the album will see a release in late May, just in time for the action to kick-off. Meanwhile, you can grab ‘Bem Brasil’ i.e. Fatboy Slim’s honest interpretation of what the Party playlist should sound like here!
