Nearly three and a half years after Gareth Emery released his debut album “Northern Lights”, the man behind Garuda is back with a brand new album titled “Drive”.
“Drive” is a beautifully crafted album. The production is masterful right from the synths and the chords to the perfectly layered vocals. The reason “Drive” impresses is that every track has a signature Gareth Emery melody that his fans have come to love. The fusion of elements of trance, progressive house and the occasional big room synth blend together to leave an hour long musical experience that will leave Emery’s fans craving for more.
Another aspect that “Drive” delivers in is collaborations. Familiar names return with Christina Novelli who provides divine vocals for the track “Dynamite” and Emery’s sister Roxanne Emery who delivers vocals for the track “Soldier” and co-writes 4 tracks in the album. Garuda artist Ben Gold collaborates with Emery to produce “Javelin”, a progressive anthem. Gavin Beach, Bo Bruce, Asia Whiteacre and LJ Ayrten also deliver fantastic vocal performances that perfectly compliment the melody in their respective tracks. Emery also finally releases “Lights & Thunder” featuring Krewella, a track that has been a highlight in his sets over the past few months. The standout track in this album goes to “Million Years” featuring Asia Whiteacre, a beautiful melody accompanied by mesmerizing vocals makes it a joy to listen to.
“Drive” represents Gareth Emery as an artist and is a clear indication of why he is one of the most respected DJ/producers today. The album is a must have, not only for Gareth Emery fans but also enthusiasts of dance music as it transcends the boundaries of dance music sub-genres, much like Avicii did with “True”. Variety in production seems to be the way forward for dance music.
The album is now available for purchase on Beatport and iTunes.
