The highly anticipated unnamed collaboration between Armin van Buuren and Hardwell finally got its first official preview last night on Armin’s radio show A State Of Trance. The track, titled ‘Off The Hook‘, was previously being played by both the DJs during their sets as an ID under the working title ‘Next Level‘.
Speaking about the collaboration during the radio show, Armin said:
“It was really awesome to work with someone who has a really clear idea about his own sound but is also open to merge his ideas with mine. I wanted to show the world that it can be exciting to try and blend two different worlds together and create something that’s more than the sum of its parts.“
The single features both Armin’s and Hardwell’s unique production styles together, featuring big room synths in oscillating keys with a hard hitting percussive line, with string arrangements during the bridge, and sounds “off the hook”. (See what we did there?)
While the collaboration might not be well received by trance purists, it does make for a brilliant effort from the two titans of the dance music world, and expect it to go big in the coming months. Definitely one of the biggest tracks of the year, if not the biggest.
Set to be the second single on his upcoming album, ‘Embrace‘, the collaboration was also played by Armin during his #ASOTFESTASIA set in Mumbai back in June, and you can watch it here. In the meanwhile, give it a listen here below.
