Project 46 have made an undeniable impact on the progressive house scene this year. Their meteoric rise dates back to their breakthrough release, ‘Reasons’ featuring vocals by Andrew Allen, which went straight to the #1 overall spot on Beatport. Living at opposite ends of their country has also not slowed down the steady flow of productions from the duo’s studios, as Ryan and Thomas still find time to post new tracks on their SoundCloud page at least weekly. Their refreshing mixes of originals, remixes, bootlegs, and mashups have kept fans engaged and has drawn massive support from followers across the globe.

We had the pleasure of interviewing the  duo prior to their tour of India. Hit past the break to know what they had to tell us about the most memorable moment of their career yet, their passions apart from music, the reason for offering their tracks as free downloads, what they look forward to as part of their tour of India & more!

TBB: From topping the Beatport chart with your track, “Reasons”, to finding yourselves on the DJ Mag Top 100 in your first year, what would you say has been the greatest moment of your career till now?

Project 46: We just finished touring with Morgan Page and on the first show in Los Angeles we closed with our collaboration with Kaskade. Except for the first time ever we were able to filter down the breakdown and have the crowd sing the words. Having that happen on an original piece almost brought tears to our eyes.

TBB: Speaking about topping the Beatport chart, what was your first reaction when both of you learnt that you had hit #1?

Project 46: We were actually in the studio working on some music with Adam K in Toronto when we found out. High fives were in order. Was a pretty special feeling!

TBB: You’ve collaborated with some of the biggest names from the industry including, Kaskade and Paul Oakenfold. Could you tell us a little about how each of the aforementioned collaborations came about? Additionally, who would you most like to work with next?

Project 46: I mean Ryan (Kaskade) and Paul were both great to work with. We have always looked up to them and to have an opportunity to do a track with them was a bit surreal! In the future we are going to try and work with people outside of the EDM space. Try to fuse something new and fresh.

TBB: Apart from your obvious passion for music, tell us a few things each of you are individually passionate about?

Project 46: Thomas – Golf, League or Legends and Sushi
Ryan – Family & Friends, My bed at home and I love beer!

TBB: You’re set to tour India soon. We’d be very intrigued to know if you have heard anything about the dance music scene here from your peers in the industry?

Project 46: We have not heard much about the scene in India. We know it is growing pretty quickly and thought it was important to get over and share our music sooner than later.

TBB: Talking about India, what are the things that you’re looking forward to the most as part of your tour of the country?

Project 46: Experiencing the culture & meeting people, amazing landmarks such as the Taj Mahal and spending some time on the beaches out here and obviously the shows!

TBB: Could you tell us about your ‘Pancake Friday’ concept and how it came about?

Project 46: Pancake Friday pretty much started as a joke. We wanted to do a free giveaway and I (Ryan) wanted to call it like Freebie Friday or something like that. Thomas pretty much took the lead and called it Pancake Friday. When I questioned him he pretty much looked at me and said, if you going to call it something stupid lets call it something really stupid. To our surprise people loved it and it slowly became our thing.

TBB: What’s the main reason behind giving your music away for free instead of having fans buy it?

Project 46: I mean why not? Our goal is to get our music out to as many people as possible. We are also not naive and know it’s going to be out there for free. Why not make it easier to find and make sure they get high quality copies.

TBB: As artists you’ve been extremely successful and your popularity has pretty much blown up over the last months. What’s the next step, the next milestone you’re aiming for? Any upcoming releases, remixes or collaborations which are soon to be released in the near future?

Project 46: We have a remix for Krewella coming out in December followed by a big collaboration in January. After that we are looking at releasing our first album come spring! We are already working hard on it.

TBB: Since we are thebanginbeats.com, we have to ask you our traditional question; what are your top 3 #bangin tracks?

Project 46: Maarcos – Blaze (Dirty South Edit), Sick Individuals, Axwell ft. Taylr Renne – I am (Original Mix) and Don Diablo, Matt Nash – Starlight (Could you be Mine) – (Otto Knows remix).

TBB: To wrap up, any final words for your fans here in India?

Project 46: Just a huge thank-you for having us here. We really hope you’re able to make it out to one of our four shows. Super excited to share our music and a ton of unreleased stuff we are working on as well.

TBB: Thank you so much for taking time out and speaking with us. It’s been an absolute pleasure!
