Pegboard Nerds had a smashing year with a plethora of singles including collaboration with NGHTMRE, Krewella, Snails and remixes for the likes of G-Eazy and Virtual Riot. Accompanying Seven Lions on The Journey Tour and bringing the new year here in India at Sunburn Festival, you may think that it’s time for them to cool down a bit but you have no idea how wrong you’d be!
The notorious Denish-Norwegian duo has finally released their long-awaited Nerds By Nature EP and boy was the wait worth it! Given the success of their Pink Cloud EP from 2015 and its remix pack, this EP was highly awaited and it surely delivers on the expectations.
Starting with a perfect intro of “Speed Of Light“, Pegboard Nerds ease you in the Nerds By Nature universe. Its silky synths and dynamic arpeggios create a moving atmosphere that will hypnotise you. With a reverberating outro filled with misc street sounds, the song delivers you into the next track of the EP.
A perfect Future Bass follow-up to that outro, “Talk About It” features Desirée Dawson on the vocals. Piano chords and warm baseline accompany the punchy drums. Actively morphing saw chords on the drop with the vocal chops are setting the song towards a stronger story point of the EP.
Then comes the already released ‘Melodymania‘ which is a complete 4-on-the-floor banger with signature Nerds sound influenced by video games. It’s followed by “Go Berzerk“, a stunning Dubstep tune in collaboration with Quiet Disorder. Carrying on the Nerds sound, this song goes hard with punchy drums and gritty growls. Two different sounding drops deliver a clear message that it’s only gonna get harder from here!
The peak point of the EP is represented by an already released single, ‘BAMF‘ which sounds exactly like it’s titled! Filled with horrific sounds and spooky horns, this heavy dubstep tune drops hard with contagious bass sound which only enhances the scary atmosphere!
Closing the EP in style, Pegboard Nerds unleash a stunning Bass House banger, ‘Blackout‘. Led by the 8-bit-infused lead bass, this track unleashes total unrest with the ups and downs in the energy!
Starting from lush stuff like “Speed of Light” and “Talk About It”, Pegboard Nerds take it through a bump in energy with ‘Melodymania’ and goes total berzerk with the last three tracks. It’s quite apparent that Nerds By Nature is one heck of a musical ride that you wouldn’t want to miss!
