Yes, it’s official. Deadmau5 is back. While we’re used to being treated with new music freshly served from Joel’s studio every now and then, thanks to his SoundCloud account which has now ceased to exist, his brand new track ‘Snowcone’ marks the mau5’s first official release in nearly two years since his last Grammy nominated album release While (1<2) back in 2014.
While the track was originally teased by Joel in early April, the official release comes on the heels of a teaser put out by mau5trap recently which gave away the hint of an upcoming release by the label head. The final version, clocking in at over five minutes consists of everything you had listened to thus far with additional mastering giving it a clearer and crisper sound on an overall basis. The track features ambient undertones, fused with laidback, classic hip hop beats and, while we can’t say we were caught offguard by his experimentation, the end result does leave us quite impressed. Joel is a man of many talents, and his dexterity in production clearly shows on ‘Snowcone‘.
