Now this is one piece of news that was kept tightly under wraps. Fans of Dance Music and the 2011 cult blockbuster movie ‘Drive‘ will get the unique opportunity of having the two find semblance in an exciting new project envisioned by BBC Radio 1 host Zane Lowe. With support from director Nicolas Winding Refn, Lowe has assembled a super-team of producers from the mighty Eric Prydz, Chvrches, Foals, SBTRKT, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, the 1975, Baauer, BANKS, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, the Neighbourhood and ZCC (aka Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro) in making a brand new soundtrack for the film. The ‘Rescoring’ of the movie is a one-of-its-kind venture by the veteran Radio show host and DJ-Producer who simply described it as “the most ambitious, awesome thing we’ve ever done.” Speaking out recently over Twitter, he explained and clarified concerns of die-hard fans of the movie.
Radio 1 Rescores ‘Drive’. A unique, one off project for Radio 1 and BBC Three. With new music from The 1975, Baauer, BANKS, Bastille…

I’ve read some messages from people who are either confused or angry about #R1Drive. Its important to say no-one is trying to improve here.

This experiment comes from a place of respect. We have not steam rolled in. NWR and the Film Company have been into it since the start.

It is a parallel experience that you can choose to watch or not.

Its just an idea. But understand that we are not trying to replace or improve the original…just be inspired.

That said, it’s really really good.

Anybody who’s seen the film, has been hooked to its alternative narrative style and Gosling‘s uber-cool avataar. The story of a Hollywood stunt car driver and a robbery heist gone all wrong, became one of the most critically and commercially acclaimed films of 2011 as it featured an original score by Cliff Martinez, Chromatics, Kavinsky, College and Electric Youth among more. With Zane Lowe‘s awesome dream team reinventing the sound track for the film, it will give viewers, critics and analysts alike a keen insight of music production in the art of storytelling.
The film will be broadcast on BBC Three on October 30. Viewers will be able to switch between the new and original soundtracks. We can’t wait to hear all the stunning productions, but here’s a preview of the one curated by Chvrches.
