Former President Donald Trump recently expressed his approval on Truth Social for the West Point Association of Graduates’ decision to cancel an awards ceremony that was to honor actor Tom Hanks. Trump criticized Hanks, stating that the actor would have been a “destructive, woke recipient” of the award.
“West Point, which is increasingly becoming greater, made a wise decision to cancel the award ceremony for Tom Hanks,” Trump posted. “This is a crucial step! We don’t need destructive, WOKE individuals receiving our valued American Awards!!! I hope the Academy Awards and other Fake Award Shows will reconsider their Standards and Practices in pursuit of Fairness and Justice. Watch as their DEAD RATINGS SOAR!”

Mark Bieger, President and CEO of the West Point Association of Graduates, communicated the cancellation decision via an email to faculty. He justified the decision by stating it allows West Point to “concentrate on its fundamental mission of equipping cadets to serve as leaders, combatants, and victors in the world’s most formidable military force, the United States Army.”
The event was initially scheduled for September 25, where Hanks was to be recognized as an exceptional civilian who has significantly contributed to social causes, embodying West Point’s esteemed principles of “Duty, Honor, Country.”

Trump frequently uses social media platforms to voice his opinions against Hollywood figures. Notably, he labeled George Clooney a “fake movie actor” following Clooney’s suggestion that Joe Biden should withdraw his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Clooney later dismissed Trump’s remarks in a “CBS Mornings” interview, stating, “I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time. My role isn’t to appease the President of the United States. My responsibility is to speak the truth whenever possible and whenever I have the chance. I understand that some may dislike this, and I may face criticism. Elon Musk has also shared his views [on me]. They are entitled to their opinions, just as I am entitled to mine.”
As of now, Tom Hanks has not made any public comments regarding the cancellation of his award ceremony by West Point.
