Tony Hawk Is Auctioning His Gear And Board He Used When He Did An Iconic Trick

By the late 1990s, the X Games had become the premier venue for extreme sports competitions. It was here that Tony Hawk made history by being the first to land a 900 flip—a complex trick involving two and a half aerial spins—after multiple unsuccessful attempts. This milestone not only transformed skateboarding but also propelled Hawk into launching a successful video game franchise. Today, a fortunate fan has the opportunity to acquire the very equipment and skateboard Hawk used during his iconic 1999 X Games performance.

Nicknamed “the 900 collection,” this set includes the Birdhouse Falcon 2 skateboard, along with the shoes, knee pads, and Hawk’s professional credentials from the event.

Historic Skateboarding Gear Up for Grabs

Julien’s Auctions describes the item as more than just a skateboard; it’s a pivotal piece of sports history. This was the board—a Birdhouse Falcon 2 equipped with Fury trucks and plain wheels—that Tony Hawk rode to fame with his groundbreaking 900 spin at the 1999 X Games in San Francisco.

The auctioned collection not only features the skateboard but also the black Mosa Sports helmet Hawk wore, which he autographed. The helmet alone is expected to attract bids between $5,000 and $7,000. The skateboard is estimated to fetch between $500,000 and $700,000. Proceeds from the sale will benefit The Skatepark Project, which supports the development of safe and inclusive skateparks in underserved communities.

If you find these pieces of sporting history beyond your budget, you might be interested in the upcoming release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. The game is set to launch on July 11 and will be available on all modern gaming platforms and included in the Game Pass lineup.
