The track ‘Phat Brahms‘ by Steve Aoki & Angger Dimas vs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike , which is an interpretation of Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms was released last year in October and received an outstanding response from everyone since then. Looking at the huge response, they decided to run a fan contest to make the official music video for ‘Phat Brahms’ giving out certain assets to the participants and keeping a cash prize & for the winners. The contest received an amazing response and there was finally a winner because of who, we have this amazing animated official video of the track. It is Directed by Lionel Dupont, the winner of Genero.TV’s Phat Brahms music video contest. Perfectly synchronized to the beats and the melody, the video features caricatures of Aoki, Angger Dimas, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike who are involved in a dramatic story that has a stupefying end. That’s a shitload of names in one EP , right? The Ep is a mega-collabo with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike , including eight new versions, by Tom Swoon, Coone, 3BallMTY, Wolfpack, Bro Safari & UFO, Clinton VanScriver, Botnek and Cold Blank .
‘Phat Brahms’ was released through Steve Aoki’s notorious production house Dim Mak . As everyone’s coming from the Drum and bass world and have been experimenting on moombahton sound , this track is the result of marrying those two worlds together , even though there is more moomahton than drum and bass. We can sense what their trying to introduce.
Brahm takes on classical rhythms (a little oldschooled) and gives it an electro house edge. Through each remix Coone carries on pumping hardstyle synths,while VanSchiver inserts some damaging bass.Wolfpack, ColdBlank and 3BallMTY also give in their share of screeching bass,pure moomhahton such as track 9 , majestic tunes witnessed in track 7-6-5-4-3, and without forgetting to include hard hitting electro house elements served in track 8 , neatly packaged in one EP.

Anybody who is familiar with classical music will know the original composition that this track has been sampled from. Its been used in umpteen movie soundtracks and shows. Composed by one of the most influential and significant composers of the 19th Century, Johannes Brahms. Dropping the essence of the original in a high-pitched bleepy build-up, Steve Aoki, Angger Dimas, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have tweaked this classical into an absolute #banger. I heard the preview a week ago and am so excited that it has finally been released. The amalgamation of electro and wobbly basslines really transforms this classical into an epic release ready to rock the dance floors. I can only hope that Steve Aoki drops this at his gig this coming Saturday at Kitty Su.
