While you were sleeping, a certain mau5 lay awake, making as much noise as possible, locked away in his studio. In roughly 20 odd hours, the iconic Deadmau5 posted five, yes you read that right, “FIVE” new sounds on his SoundCloud page, ranging in style from “whateverstep” to “anystep” to “nowhere step”.

This creative binge brings Joel’s total to nine posts in nine days, no small feat for a producer whose latest album came out ten months ago and featured just 13 tracks plus mixes. All these posts give a peak into the ace producer’s creative prowess, and along with the melodic “Entschuldigen Sie“, which is assumed to be an apology of sorts and “Going Nowhere Fast”, mau5 released three versions of the same tune, building “Anywhere Up Here” into “Anywhere Down There” before declaring “Somewhere Up Here” to be the final version.

“Somewhere Up Here” is a splendid cut packed with tough drums, an intense guitar, and some somber keys. It’s downtempo so to speak, but feels like it’s being played in conjunction with a live band constructing together a melancholy infused song.
