EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SHERMANOLOGY !!

Shermanology are a three-piece act originally from the Netherlands but have definitely been making waves across the international circuit. We’ve seen them collaborate and appear on records alongside the likes of Afrojack, Chuckie, Avicii, John Dahlback and Shapeshifters.
This year we’ve seen them release the massive, “Can’t Stop Me Now” with Afrojack again which was very successful leading to a whole bunch of remix’s of the track and an official video as well.
About a week back their new track, “Living 4 The City” was released with R3hab which was met with an incredible response and loved by many.
In an amazing interview they tell us about an upcoming release with Afrojack, their plans to hit India next year and more, read ahead for the whole scoop on all about this super trio!
Q) Hey Guys! Welcome to “The Bangin Beats” (thebanginbeats.com), it’s a pleasure to be interviewing you. How’s the year been for you guys till now? Been touring a lot lately?
SHERMANOLOGY: 2012 has been unreal. We spent all of last year non-stop in the studio making tracks which are almost ready to see the light of day! So far the responses have been really good which is always great to hear and motivates us to make even more music. We have a lot of new music coming out, so it is a really exciting time for us. We have been touring a lot the last few months and next week we start our 5 week tour with Afrojack and the whole Jacked team – we are really excited!
Q) As The Sherman Brothers, your father and uncle made classic soul records. How far did they play a role in shaping you as artists? How much of an inspiration have they been in your careers?
SHERMANOLOGY: They were our biggest inspiration. Seeing them rehearsing for their tours every week in our living room gave us a clear view of what we wanted to do in the future.
They always involved us from a young age so we learnt a huge amount from them, from singing harmonies in the car through to making tour outfits.
Q) We read that your different careers began on separate trajectories. Tell us how did the three of you came together to form Shermanology?
SHERMANOLOGY: Whilst each of us was working on our solo material, we would meet on the road. Sometimes Andy would work with Leon or Dorothy with Andy but we never had the chance for all of us to work together but we always said that one day we would. In 2009, Andy and Dorothy started Shermanology, which started growing really quickly, however something seemed like it was missing. We all knew that if Leon would join us that we could do more live stuff, so Leon flew over from Spain and joined. It was a good decision and now he isn’t going anywhere!!

Q) You guys had released “Can’t Stop Me” with Afrojack which has been remixed by a number of producers and also has been a part of a lot of massive sets by some of the biggest artists around. Could we say it’s one of the proudest moments of your career?
SHERMANOLOGY: We have been fortunate enough to have a lot of proud moments in our career. Since signing to Afrojack’s label, we have made so much music together. It has been a really proud and overwhelming experience for us to work on Afrojack’s album as producers and songwriters as this is something that we have always wanted to do. It is such a beautiful feeling to go through the whole process of making a song, right from scratch, writing all the lyrics then seeing 30,000 people singing along. That was why Ultra Music Festival was a huge moment in our career.
Q) We just reviewed your new track with R3hab, “Living 4 The City” on our portal and the response has been great! Could you tell us something about how it came about and the production process?
SHERMANOLOGY: Living for the city had a special production process. Andy and Leon produced the first demo. We were out driving one day and listened to the demo and I said to Leon, “lets just post this for fun” which we did, then it just blew up and loads of blogs. R3hab then called us and asked he could reproduce the track with us, which we said yes too straight as he is one of the best producers around and has been a close friend for years. After hitting the studio together we finished the track and loved it.
Q) Talking about “Living 4 The City”, we asked around if anyone of our readers wanted to ask a question as part of the interview and we got one question asking, What do you feel about the formula of vocals versions coming out these days for tracks? Is it really important considering the mainstream influence or is there nothing better than the original instrumental versions?
SHERMANOLOGY: We don’t think that all tracks should have vocals; you only have to put vocals on a track if it makes the track better. You shouldn’t put a vocal on an instrumental because you want to make it mainstream, that is the wrong way to do it. Last year we released 2 instrumental tracks called “Grindin” and ” Ring The Alarm” which we could of put vocals on it to make it mainstream but we didn’t because it didn’t feel right. Our motto is – Vocals have to lift you up. If they don’t…let it go.
Q) How does it feel to be part of the whole Dutch and Swedish wave surrounding dance music today?
SHERMANOLOGY: It is a great feeling. We think the Dutch and the Swedes are doing a great job and we have our own sound. Dance music is a culture in Holland and always has been. We are born and raised with it. Many of the young kids making music in Holland have the right basics to become great producers, they know what kick to select and what snare to put in a track because they have been hearing this kind of music their whole lives. We have to share this domination with some other countries soon as we love the way it is spreading all over the globe!
Q) We heard that the three of you along with the entire JACKED crew (including Afrojack of course) will be hosting a massive party at Pier 94 in NYC on new years eve this year. Is it safe to say it’s going to be one of the biggest new year parties this year? Any special plans for the night?
SHERMANOLOGY: I think its safe to say that
We will go to NYC as a family, one team who will have only one thing in mind. 2012 was a great year for all of us but we plan to make sure we start 2013 with a bang. We can tell you one thing and that is that the Jacked family know how to party. We are already looking forward to the first hangover in January 2013!!! We are also working on lots of new tracks and our special plan is to sample loads of our new collaborations. This way we can let our fans hear what we’ve got in store for the New Year.

Q) You’ve already worked with some big artists like Afrojack, Avicii and now R3hab. Whats up next for you guys? Could we expect a few more releases before the end of the year?
SHERMANOLOGY: We have some great solo tracks coming up as well as collaborating with some great new people. We don’t want to mention the names yet until the songs are finished but I can say that we have a new track with Afrojack called “When You Are Around.” We have been playing the track out for a couple of weeks and the reactions have been good, so we are getting pretty excited about releasing it.
Q) What advice would you give EDM portals like our’s (thebanginbeats.com)?
SHERMANOLOGY: We think you guys have a lot of responsibility to educate the world on EDM and you are doing such a good job. Without online portals it would make it harder to find what is going on in the scene, So it is really good that people can go to their favorite blog and read the info they need. Use you super power wisely ![]()
Q) Finally, any message for you’re fans here in India and around the world? Also, do you guys have any plans of touring India soon?
SHERMANOLOGY: We will work really hard to put as much music out as possible. Thank you for all the support you guys have given us. We see everything that is happening around us. We can’t wait to get over to India because our fellow DJs have been telling us how crazy the vive is out there! So India we will see you in 2013.
Thank you for the interview! Keep the music coming!!

Tom Staar – Cheyenne

Tom Staar is one of the fresh new faces in the EDM scene that has been making serious waves with his remixes of late! His remix of Afrojack’s club anthem “Can’t Stop Me Now” has received tremendous support from so many DJ’s these days. The likes of Nicky Romero, Steve Aoki and Tiesto have been belting this track out as part of their sets recently. Tom’s talent was quickly spotted by the Swedish House Mafia and they brought him on board to remix their track “Don’t You Worry Child”.
“Cheyenne” is a clear example of a jarring electro house tune that has also been an unsung hero in the sets of these DJ’s. Pure piano chords create the ample setting for a massive exciting build that really shows how talented this superstar in the making is. By the sound of it, this track has all the signs of being Tom Staar’s biggest single yet.
Long story short, if you have ever loved the music of Wolfgang Gartner, then you have to give this a listen.
“Cheyenne” is being released under Gartner’s label Kindergarten Records on October 22nd, 2012.
