Allegations of Plagiarism Against Disney by a Star Wars Fan Filmmaker
A filmmaker and Star Wars enthusiast, Lorenz Hideyoshi, has publicly claimed that Disney duplicated a fight scene he devised, replicating it in an exact manner in one of the episodes of the series Star Wars: Visions.
Details of the Accusation
Hideyoshi pointed out that the choreography and cinematography of a specific 12-second segment are strikingly similar to those he used in his own production. He showcased this similarity by uploading a video on Instagram that juxtaposes his self-made film with a sequence from the animated series on Disney+. The video demonstrates how his original creation aligns shot-for-shot with the episode titled The Bandits of Golak from Visions’ 2023 release.
In the Instagram video, Hideyoshi captioned, “When Disney blatantly steals your action design.” This caption highlights his frustration and points out the direct parallels between his 2019 YouTube release, Dark Jedi: A Star Wars Story, and the recent Disney+ episode.
Hideyoshi’s Reaction and Comments
In his Instagram post, Hideyoshi expressed dismay over the replication, noting that although the weapons used were different, the core choreography from his work was forcefully adopted without any modifications to the cinematographic perspectives. He openly questioned Disney’s ethics with a poignant, “Why Disney?” He speculated whether the appropriation was justified because his project was a non-commercial tribute to one of Disney’s intellectual properties. He suggested that Disney should either increase compensation for their animators or consider hiring a dedicated action designer.

This controversy surfaces shortly after the release of the third season of Star Wars: Visions on Disney+. The anthology series added nine new stories to its collection last month, each presenting a unique narrative within the expansive Star Wars universe.
