A Better Tomorrow, featuring Chow Yun-fat as Mark Lee, a conflicted police officer caught between duty and honor, was a massive hit upon its release in 1986. It paved the way for director John Woo and Chow Yun-fat’s eventual move to Hollywood. The second film in the series introduced a significant plot twist and continued the tradition of high-action and dramatic shootouts. The third film, a prequel set during the Vietnam War, closed the series in 1989, despite its less favorable storyline, still delivered spectacular action sequences.

Hard Boiled, another standout from the Hong Kong Cinema Classics, was released in 1992. Renowned for its relentless action and stylish execution, this film remains a high point in the collaboration between John Woo and Chow Yun-fat.
