Nintendo has announced that several popular titles from its Switch 1 platform will receive complimentary performance enhancements for Switch 2. This upgrade is set to enhance the gaming experience with several improvements.
Titles including Arms, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are among those selected for these enhancements.
According to an official statement on the Nintendo website, these upgrades will be available at no extra cost. Switch 2 users can simply connect their device to the internet, perform a system update, and download the updates for improved graphics and additional features like GameShare, depending on the specific game.
It’s important to note that these updates are distinct from the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games, which are considered premium and may involve additional costs, except for titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which are free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
For instance, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will benefit from enhanced image quality suitable for high-resolution TVs and smoother frame rates. Super Mario Odyssey will introduce HDR support and GameShare capability, allowing two players to enjoy the game together online; one controlling Mario and the other Cappy.
However, it’s worth mentioning that Nintendo’s announcement does not address frame rate improvements for the two top-down Zelda titles, which might be seen as a disappointing oversight due to their known performance issues.
