Niu Vision Media and Echelon Studios are joining forces to introduce the Chinese war drama “Dead to Rights,” directed by Shen Ao (“No More Bets”), to audiences in North America.
Produced by Gong Geer, known for his work on “The Wandering Earth” franchise, the movie is set to debut in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on August 15, distributed by Niu Vision Media. A streaming release is also scheduled later in the year.
Taking place during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, “Dead to Rights” tells the story of A Chang (played by Liu Haoran from the “Detective Chinatown” series), a postman who adopts the guise of a photo developer to elude capture during the Japanese occupation. From his covert base inside a Japanese-run studio, he secretly provides refuge to Chinese soldiers and civilians, engaging in a silent form of resistance.
This release marks another collaborative effort between Niu Vision and Echelon to bring unique, director-led Asian films to global markets.
“The narrative of ‘Dead to Rights’ serves as a powerful, relevant tribute to the personal tales that unfold within the grim chapters of history,” remarked Fukun Wang, CEO of Niu Vision. “We are excited to partner again with Echelon Studios to showcase this remarkable movie to North American viewers, both in cinemas and on streaming platforms later.”
Sandro Gohoho, Echelon Studios’ president of licensing and operations, commented: “This narrative deserves widespread attention. ‘Dead to Rights’ is a prime example of the impactful, courageous storytelling we aim to support. We are eager to promote Shen Ao’s distinctive perspective to our digital audience across the U.S.”
The partnership between Niu Vision and Echelon continues, following their previous joint venture on the Chinese thriller “Malice.”
In addition to the North American release, Niu Vision is also launching the film in Australia and New Zealand on August 7.
