Delay Announced for Mortal Kombat Movie Sequel
Those eagerly awaiting the release of the next chapter in the revamped Mortal Kombat film series will need to exercise a bit more patience. According to a recent update from Deadline, the upcoming sequel, which features Karl Urban and is directed by Simon McQuoid, has had its release pushed back to the following summer.
Originally scheduled for release on October 24, 2025, Mortal Kombat II will now premiere on May 15, 2026. The decision for the delay, as per reports by Deadline, stems from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s strategy to capitalize on the summer box office period, a decision influenced by the enthusiastic reception to the movie’s trailer.
Described by New Line Cinema as “the latest high-stakes chapter of the iconic video game saga presented in all its intense and savage splendor,” the sequel will showcase epic battles where favorite heroes, now joined by Johnny Cage (played by Karl Urban), will face off in a fierce and bloody contest to thwart the dark reign of Shao Kahn that looms over Earthrealm and its guardians.
The cast of Mortal Kombat II includes Karl Urban alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, among others, promising an exciting lineup of talent for the film’s ensemble.
