Mortal Kombat 2 Trailer Will Premiere This Week

This week, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema unveiled a series of playful, over-the-top movie posters featuring Johnny Cage to hype up Mortal Kombat 2, the anticipated follow-up to the 2021 reboot. Fans are on the edge of their seats as the release of the first trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 is just around the corner, set to premiere tomorrow morning.

The official Warner Bros. YouTube channel is currently running a countdown that will culminate in the premiere of the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer on Thursday, July 17 at 8:05 AM PT, which is 11:05 AM ET. The film boasts significant new talent including Karl Urban stepping into the role of Johnny Cage, with Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Tati Gabrielle as Jade.

In the 2021 movie, audiences were introduced to a new protagonist, Cole Young, portrayed by Lewis Tan, who was central to the storyline. Tan will return in the sequel, though it remains to be seen if Cole will continue to lead. The sequel will also see the return of several actors from the first film, such as Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

Interestingly, despite their characters seemingly meeting their ends in the first film, Josh Lawson and Max Huang will reprise their roles as Kano and Kung Lao, respectively. Damon Herriman, who lent his voice to Kabal in the first installment, will be portraying the sorcerer Quan Chi in the sequel. Additionally, Joe Taslim’s portrayal of Sub-Zero/Bi-Han in the previous movie will evolve into the character Noob Saibot in this sequel.

The release date for Mortal Kombat 2 is set for October 24, 2025. Moreover, fans of the original video games which seem to inspire the film will be excited to hear about the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. This compilation, releasing later this year, will include the first four Mortal Kombat games, featuring various console and handheld versions.
