Doechii Triumphs at 2025 Grammys: Best Rap Album for ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’

Doechii has clinched the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album with her groundbreaking work, Alligator Bites Never Heal. She now stands as the third female in history to achieve this feat, surpassing albums by renowned artists such as Common and Pete Rock (The Auditorium Vol. 1), Eminem (The Death of Slim Shady), Future and Metro Boomin (We Don’t Trust You), and J. Cole (Might Delete Later).

In her emotional acceptance speech, Doechii highlighted the significance of her win, saying, “This category first appeared in 1989. Since then, only three women, including Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and now myself, have taken home this award.”

She emotionally added:

This mixtape is a piece of my soul and my heart. It reveals my personal struggles. I embraced sobriety and believed in God’s promise of showing me the heights I could achieve. I must thank God, my loving mother who has been my guide, my label; my engineer, Jada, for her immense contributions; and my supporters, the Swamp.

There might be many people unfamiliar with me. I hail from Tampa, Florida, and proudly bear the title of Swamp Princess! Tampa is a cultural hub, often overshadowed by Miami. To all the labels out there, I say, look towards Tampa for more talent!

I’m immensely grateful to my label, TDE, and everyone involved in this project. A big thank you to all the producers and to the hip-hop community.

Lastly, I want to say—oh my God, there’s so much happening, what the fuck? Sorry! I know there are Black girls and many Black women watching this moment, and my message to you is: You can achieve anything. Anything is achievable. Never let anyone impose stereotypes on you that claim you can’t be here because you’re too dark, not smart enough, too dramatic, or too loud. You are perfect as you are, exactly where you need to be. I stand here as living proof! Praise God!
