Disney has entered into a significant agreement, worth a seven-figure sum, for the rights to “Impossible Creatures,” a popular fantasy book series from Britain. This series, which includes a variety of mythical animals, has been compared to the Harry Potter series by literary experts.
Authored by Katherine Rundell, the “Impossible Creatures” series currently includes two published novels, each of which secured multi-million pound agreements prior to their release. Plans are in place to expand the series with at least three additional novels.
According to a report from Deadline, Disney outbid competitors such as Netflix and Warner Bros. for the adaptation rights to “Impossible Creatures.” Warner Bros. is presently engaged in developing a new Harry Potter TV series for HBO, intended to span over a decade.

The narrative of “Impossible Creatures” centers on a young boy named Christopher who stumbles upon a magical realm while traveling through the Scottish Highlands. Unlike discovering Hogwarts, Christopher encounters the Gilmouria Archipelago and meets a girl named Mal. Together, they share a commitment to protect the archipelago’s magical creatures, which are in peril as the magic of their world begins to fade.
Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “From the moment I read ‘Impossible Creatures,’ I felt it was a perfect fit for Disney,” he remarked. He praised Katherine Rundell’s vivid imagination and expressed eagerness to bring the story to life on screen, confident in the capabilities of the Walt Disney Studios team and Rundell’s personal involvement in writing the movies.
Katherine Rundell shared her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Joining forces with Disney is a dream come true.” She highlighted the privilege of writing the screenplays and developing the film franchise alongside her creative partner Charles Collier and her team at Impossible Films, as well as with Disney’s outstanding team. She also acknowledged Bob Iger’s pivotal role in initiating this partnership after he read her book.
