CRKD Follows Up Its Guitar Controllers With a New Drum Kit Controller

CRKD Announces Upcoming Drum Kit Controller

The inevitable has occurred: CRKD has just previewed an upcoming drum kit controller. Set to be released next year, the new CRKD Drum Kit Controller features four pads and three cymbals.

CRKD has been quite secretive about the specifics of this new product, withholding details on console compatibility and how it connects. Nevertheless, insights can be drawn from their promotional video. Firstly, it appears that the controller can be disassembled into smaller components, making it portable. This design choice seems to follow the modular design seen in its guitar controller counterpart with its detachable neck and headstock. Secondly, a series of lights visible just beneath the drum pad area suggests that the controller is likely to be wireless—a much-expected feature.

The construction of the controller promises a solid gaming experience, evidenced by a robust-looking bass drum pedal. However, like the previous Rock Band drum controller, the setup does not closely resemble a traditional drum kit, either electronic or acoustic. The drum heads are unusually close together, and the cymbals are placed in slightly awkward positions. Despite these variances, this controller is primarily designed for rhythm-based video games such as Clone Hero and YARG, and not for realistic drumming simulation. It might also find use in Fortnite Festival, although this game mode currently does not support drum controllers and relies on standard game controllers and keyboards. This could hint at a potential future update to include drum kit functionality.
