Another Bloodborne State of Play No-Show Leaves Fans Questioning If PS5 Port Will Ever Happen

The recent February 2025 State of Play event has passed, and with it, another chance for Sony to unveil a remastered version of Bloodborne slipped away.

During this week’s showcase, Sony provided a glimpse into its upcoming projects, featuring both in-house and third-party titles for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Noteworthy announcements included Housemarque’s introduction of Saros, the successor to Returnal, and the much-anticipated launch date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater by Konami, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. However, Bloodborne was conspicuously absent from the lineup.

As the 40-minute presentation concluded, many fans had to metaphorically wash off their clown makeup, preparing themselves to build hope again for a future announcement. For some, the absence of Bloodborne felt particularly painful, especially as March 24, 2025, marks a decade since the game’s original release on PS4 — a critical milestone that had many anticipating some sort of action from PlayStation and FromSoftware.

The group advocating for a Bloodborne remaster has been growing steadily over the past five years. Expectations were heightened after Sony issued a DMCA takedown last month against Lance McDonald, who developed a popular 60fps mod for the game. The takedown included demands to remove links to the patch from the internet, and a similar fate befell a demake of Bloodborne styled after PlayStation 1 games. While it’s not unusual for Sony to take such actions, the timing raised suspicions among many, including McDonald himself.

“My coping theory is that Sony DMCA’d both the 60fps patch and the demake so that when they finally announce a 60fps remaster, searches for ‘Bloodborne 60fps’ and ‘Bloodborne remaster’ won’t turn up our fan projects,” said McDonald. “Let me cope.”

Then, just a few days after these projects were taken down, a State of Play event was announced. With nearly a decade since its release, many thought this would finally be the moment. Yet, the presentation came and went without a single mention of Bloodborne, leaving fans disheartened.

Adding insult to injury, Sony announced the upcoming release of Days Gone Remastered for PS5 in April, celebrating the six-year anniversary of its original launch. This joins a series of first-party remasters including Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Part I, and The Last of Us Part II. The criteria Sony uses to select titles for remastering remains unclear, especially when there’s a high demand for revisiting the gothic realms of Yharnam in Bloodborne, a game from a developer as revered as FromSoftware.

While Sony has been reticent about any plans for Bloodborne, fans have not been left completely in the dark. Shuhei Yoshida, a former executive at Sony Interactive Entertainment who retired recently, shared his thoughts during a discussion with Kinda Funny Games. He speculated that Hidetaka Miyazaki’s deep connection to Bloodborne and his busy schedule might be why we haven’t seen further developments. “Miyazaki-san loved what he created with Bloodborne so much that he seems interested but too busy to handle it himself and too protective to let others take over,” Yoshida said.

“I am not revealing any secret information, just my theory,” he clarified.

As 2025 continues without any official news of a Bloodborne remaster, and as the PS5 moves into its fifth year, the anticipation and mystery only deepen. While waiting to see if any news surfaces, fans of FromSoftware can explore other content, including a list of the top 25 bosses from the developer’s games, and speculate over recent PlayStation trailers that have hinted at Bloodborne-related content.
