The original members of Black Sabbath are set to reunite for an epic concert, which will also mark Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance. This special event, named the Back to the Beginning charity concert, is scheduled for Saturday, July 5, at Villa Park in Birmingham, the city where the band originated. The concert boasts an impressive lineup of rock legends, including Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, and a supergroup featuring Billy Corgan, Slash, Fred Durst, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Tom Morello, who is also the musical director of the event.
Other major acts performing include Gojira, Anthrax, Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Lamb of God, and Halestorm, with Guns N’ Roses members Duff McKagan and Slash also appearing. Ozzy Osbourne will perform a short solo segment before reuniting on stage with his band. Several of the guest artists will cover Black Sabbath and Ozzy’s solo tracks, as shared by Sharon Osbourne. The lineup is expected to expand as more artists confirm their participation.
Ozzy Osbourne expressed his sentiments about the concert, stating, “It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning…time for me to give back to the city where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
Tom Morello promised, “This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever.”
In an interview with BBC News, Sharon Osbourne commented on her husband’s health and excitement, noting, “He’s doing really great. He’s so excited about this, about being with the guys again and all his friends.” She added, “Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s been no proper farewell. This concert is his way of saying goodbye.”
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice, as detailed in a press release.
