Beyoncé Ignites the Stage at Cowboy Carter Tour Opener
Last night, Beyoncé inaugurated her Cowboy Carter Tour with a display of fashion and intense choreography at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Adorned in a striking white leather outfit with fringes and a cowboy hat, she delivered an electrifying performance that included the first live renditions of several tracks from her Cowboy Carter album, special appearances by her daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter, and a memorable cover of “Before I Let Go” by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. Below is a detailed setlist of the event.
The evening began with an impactful visual display on an electronic screen showcasing the American flag next to a speaker tower marked with “KNTRY,” which represents the fictional radio station from the Cowboy Carter album. The merchandise for the tour featured Beyoncé on a mechanical horse with the bold slogan, “Never ask permission for something that already belongs to you.”
A Night of Musical Tributes and Family Appearances
Beyoncé opened her performance with “Ameriican Requiem” and “Blackbiird,” honoring Black women who paved the way in rock, folk, and country music genres. She then transitioned to a unique version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s iconic performance at Woodstock. During her song “Freedom,” a video played showing Beyoncé with dreadlocks and smoking a cigar, wearing a sash that declared “the reclamation of America.” Blue Ivy joined her mother on stage for the “Formation” choreography and remained to participate in several more songs, including “America Has a Problem,” which was introduced by an interlude that appeared to sample from Death Grips. Rumi made an unexpected appearance during “Protector,” waving excitedly, which led Beyoncé to momentarily break character with laughter and embrace her daughter.
The concert was dominated by tracks from Cowboy Carter, alongside a selection of hits from Renaissance and Beyoncé’s extensive catalog, including a playful nod to the viral “she ain’t no diva” TikTok trend. The narrative of the show portrayed Beyoncé as a renegade of the Wild West, battling exclusion and asserting her dominance. The performance reached its peak with a dramatic video of a shootout where Beyoncé, defying the bullets of an older, white cowboy, sang her final encore “Amen” against a backdrop of the Statue of Liberty reimagined with braided hair.
Beyoncé’s Continuing Success and Tour Details
Following the release of Cowboy Carter in March, a sequel to her 2022 album Renaissance and part of a planned trilogy, Beyoncé achieved her eighth No. 1 album. This milestone also marked her as the first Black woman to debut at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Her success continued at the 2025 Grammy Awards, winning Album of the Year, Best Country Album, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. In a memorable performance last December, she captivated audiences at an NFL Christmas game in Houston, which was streamed live on Netflix.
The Cowboy Carter Tour marks Beyoncé’s seventh solo tour, following the immense success of the 2023 Renaissance World Tour, which was documented in the hit concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. The tour continues with another performance in Inglewood on May 1, followed by stops in major cities such as New Jersey, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C., and will later move to European cities including London and Paris.
