Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed her eagerness to reprise her iconic role if given the chance.
Olsen last portrayed the Scarlet Witch in a live-action format in the 2022 film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. More recently, she lent her voice to the character in the 2023 animated series Marvel Zombies, although her voice work was recorded several years earlier.
Since the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there has been much speculation from fans about when Scarlet Witch might return, especially with the upcoming releases of Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively.

In a recent interview with InStyle, Olsen revealed that she is ready to don the mantle of Scarlet Witch once more.
Describing the experience of making MCU films, she commented, “It’s absurd. We are adults playing make-believe like children in a sandbox. We fly, we cast spells with our hands. Revisiting this character over the decade has been fulfilling. It’s always hard to let her go because I quickly start to miss her and would eagerly return if given another opportunity.”
She also mentioned that one of the aspects she cherishes about working within the Marvel universe is the stable community and job security it offers, which are rare to find.

However, Olsen’s potential return to the MCU may not include the Avengers films. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she confirmed she would not be in London for the filming of either Doomsday or Secret Wars, leaving fans wondering if this was just another ruse by a superhero actor.
A major lingering question is the fate of Scarlet Witch after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When directly asked about this in her interview with InStyle, Olsen responded, “No idea.”
Although Olsen’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday was not mentioned during its initial announcement, Marvel has indicated that additional casting details will be forthcoming. Notably, Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Doctor Doom, and Benedict Cumberbatch is expected to reprise his role as Doctor Strange in Secret Wars. The Russo brothers view Avengers 5 and 6 as a fresh start for Phase 7 of the MCU.
Joe Russo expressed his enthusiasm for nuanced villains, stating, “We gravitate towards villains who see themselves as heroes in their own narratives. That’s when they become multi-dimensional and intriguing. Having an actor like Robert Downey requires crafting a well-rounded, compelling character that appeals to the audience. That’s our main focus.”
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following approximately a year later in May 2027.
