‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Trailer: Jake Sully’s Family Fights Evil Na’vi in Stunning Footage From James Cameron’s Third Movie

Disney Unveils Trailer for James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash”

Disney has unveiled the initial trailer for “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the third installment in James Cameron’s Avatar series. The film is set for a theatrical release on December 19, 2025, marking three years since the premiere of “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Expanding on the universe introduced in “The Way of Water,” which explored the water-based Metkayina clan, “Fire and Ash” will introduce audiences to the Ash People. At the D23 Expo in 2024, Cameron presented a teaser that highlighted this new, intimidating tribe, seen dancing vigorously around a large fire pit, their bodies covered in ash.

Exploring New Depths of Pandora

During his presentation at the 2024 D23 Expo, Cameron promised the exploration of previously unseen parts of Pandora. He described the film as an “insane adventure” that is not only visually spectacular but also emotionally intense, more so than its predecessors. “We’re venturing into really challenging territory for all the beloved characters,” Cameron added, hinting at significant developments and trials for the familiar faces from the series.

The film sees the return of main cast members including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, and others. New to the cast are David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh, while Oona Chaplin stars as Varang, the leader of the Ash People.

The trailer reveals a dramatic alliance as Jake Sully’s family teams up with the Metkayina to confront the threat posed by Varang and her fiery minions, who have joined forces with Quaritch (played by Lang). Varang appears to wield the power to control fire, using it to devastate parts of the lush forests of Pandora. A chilling line from her at the trailer’s conclusion, “Your goddess has no dominion here,” hints at the intense conflict to come.

Originally, “The Way of Water” and “Fire and Ash” were conceived as a single film. However, as the script developed, Cameron decided to split the narrative into two distinct movies. He indicated that the Ash People would be depicted as a more aggressive and power-driven group compared to the aquatic Metkayina and the forest-inhabiting Omaticaya.

Cameron teased the audience with hints about new characters, suggesting there will be at least one who viewers will “love or love to hate.”

The invitation to watch the trailer was extended, suggesting an intriguing preview of this newest chapter in the Avatar saga.
