This upcoming weekend, moviegoers attending screenings of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will exclusively get the first glimpse of the trailer for “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
An announcement made on the official “Avatar” X account disclosed that the initial trailer for the third installment of James Cameron’s “Avatar” series will only be shown in cinemas prior to the Marvel movie “Fantastic Four.”
The release date for “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is scheduled for December 19. Additionally, the subsequent fourth and fifth installments of the “Avatar” series are planned for release on December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031, respectively.
Highlights from CinemaCon
Originally unveiled to attendees of CinemaCon in April, the trailer transports viewers back to the vibrant ecosystem of Pandora. It introduces viewers to two new Na’vi tribes: the Wind Traders, who navigate the skies in balloon-like vehicles, and their adversaries, the Fire People, who soar on winged creatures. A dramatic conflict unfolds between these tribes, culminating in a Na’vi being struck down by a flaming arrow.
In a poignant moment from the trailer, Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) expresses his concerns to his wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), saying, “We cannot live like this, baby. We cannot live with this hate.”
“Fire and Ash” continues the narrative directly from “The Way of Water,” where Jake and his family allied with the Metkayina, a water tribe on Pandora, to oppose the oppressive Resources Development Administration. The upcoming films confront them with the Ash People, a faction that has broken away from Jake’s Na’vi clan and abandoned their nature-centric faith.
Both “Avatar” and its sequel “The Way of Water” have each amassed over $2 billion globally, ranking them as the first and third highest-grossing films worldwide. Should “Fire and Ash” achieve similar financial success, it would make “Avatar” the first franchise in history to have three movies each surpassing the $2 billion mark.
